How We Make Our Treats

How We Make Our Treats

Our family farm isn’t just where we live—it’s where we raise our children, care for our Pheasants and hand make every single one of Doug’s Life treats.

Why We Started Making Our Own Treats

Our dog, Troy, was the first taste-tester. Like so many other pet owners, we wer shocked when we started reading the ingredient lists on commercial dog food and treats: meat by-products pretending to be real meat, fillers, preservatives, and ingredients we couldn’t even pronounce.

So, we began experimenting in our own kitchen. We wanted treats that:

  • Contained only one source of high-quality protein
  • Were free from fillers and additives
  • Were easy to digest and full of flavour
  • Reflected our respect for animals and the planet

What began as a passion project for Troy turned into something bigger—something we’re proud to share with other dog lovers.

Farm-to-Treat: How It’s Made

Locally and Ethically Sourced Ingredients

Our treats are made using ethically sourced Scottish Pheasant breast—a lean, protein-rich meat that’s gentle on sensitive tummies. Where possible, we work with local estates and suppliers who share our values of humane treatment and responsible land stewardship.

We know where our ingredients come from, and we think you should, too.

Handmade in Small Batches

Once the birds arrive at our farm, we carefully prepare the breast meat, dehydrate, and portion each batch ourselves. There’s no industrial machinery here—just human hands, careful eyes, and a whole lot of care.

We don’t add grains, preservatives, or artificial flavours, ever. Just pure, honest ingredients your dog will love (and their tummy will thank you for).

It’s as close to raw as you can get—without the mess.

Why It Matters

When you give your dog one of our treats, you’re not just rewarding good behaviour—you’re supporting:

  • A small family business
  • Ethical farming practices
  • Better nutrition for dogs
  • A more sustainable food system

You’re becoming part of the Doug’s Life story—and we’re honoured to be part of yours.
